Wallride

August 04, 2003

There are different ways to do a wallride, and different ways to think about how you perform the trick – just like all the other tricks! My way would be like this:

Approach the wall at about a 45 degree (or even a little less) angle. The faster you are going the longer you will ride. Jump at a fair distance from the wall. If you jump too late you will not be able to get your skates onto the wall in time and you will just end up splatting on you side and looking like an idiot. As you are jumping towards the wall bring your skates up and perpendicular to the wall. Kind of tilt your body away from the wall so that you are also perpendicular. Then gently set you wheels onto the surface and ride until you lose momentum and fall off.

Timing the jump is the key thing. It's not really a hard thing to do but it just takes practice. You might want to practice it first without your skates on. Just run upto the wall, jump, and then push back off.

After a little bit of practice you can try different variations. You could approach the wall from the other direction and doing a 270 off the wall. Land with one foot – grab the other. Transfer to another obstacle. Go try it!

Its sure looks stupid when somebody is jumping to wall an felling down, but when u can do it its great street trick!

The trick is at his best when done properly with all wheels touching the surface and a jump of, maybe even with a 180 for great style ! (make your wheels riding the wall in a horizonal angle, then push-spin off the wall before your skates are going back in to normal position)

my advice to any beginners is try to find a place where you can launchoff a speed bump or something like that to get more height and get the feeling of wall riding before you try it off the ground. just for a little more confidence. ;)

i pwn on this trick

just today i got 360 wallride 180 out.

if you can do regular wallride, try halfcab wallride 180 out. go at a good angle like the tutorial, i go around 35-40 degrees and than just push my legs out. you dont have to try to 180 out, youll just do it automatically.

for 360 wallride 180 out, have to think fast to pull it off right. if you can 540 down the set of stairs your tryin it on, than it will be cake. try to 540 being around 2 feet away from the wall. but after 360, keep your eyes on the wall. than go at an angle and do the same thing, once your eyes spot the wall, kick your legs out and ride it. and again, 180 out will feel natural, and youll automatically do it.

next time i go, im gonna try fakie 5 wallride 180 out, cant wait. :D

23-02-04 19:31:45 the wheels are meant to connect to the wall.

also, i learned it with 45 degree angle but found i didnt roll far… i just kinda rolled 2 inches and started fallin down. you wont roll that far anyway, but i find that it's a lot easier to stay on the wall with a smaller angle. i approach it close to parallel. just roll up fast beside a gap, jump straight up and lean your upper body away from the wall some while lifting the sides of your skates up sideways so that they touch the wall. put some pressure on them, you should roll at least a foot. when you jump, it's easiest if you stay 2 to 3 feet away from the wall so that it's easier for your feet to get on the wall without scraping.

it feels almost like a dropkick, and once your feet are on the wall, you can just let them drop back down when you need to. RazorHybrid04 (IP logged)
